Juliet Shaw is a fictional character in Spooks, portrayed by British actress Anna Chancellor. She rose fast as a spy, achieving the position of National Security Coordinator, at the Cabinet Office. She worked with Harry Pearce on several operations during the 1970s, including Operation Omega.
Juliet started her career in MI6 operating in Paris, where she had an affair with Harry Pearce, and later Tehran. Harry’s diary states Juliet has had posting with MI6 in Tehran, Moscow, Damascus, Lebanon and Washington D.C.
Later it is revealed that she spent time in Washington D.C before returning the Britain to apply for the position of National Security Coordinator.
Harry Pearce describes her as ruthless, right-wing, and crazy, who'll stop at nothing to protect Britain. She is driven and single-minded, with a take-no-prisoners attitude, which some find highly attractive. She cares little for the impact of her words, and will often talk bluntly rather than in a roundabout way.
Summary[]
Juliet first aids Section D during Shining Dawn's bombing campaign in London trying to force the release of their leader, Michael Monroe. After this, she is promoted to National Security Coordinator, with Harry's blessing.
When Michael Collingwood, Paul Millington, Jocelyn Myers and others try to take down the government by staging terrorist attacks in the UK, Juliet becomes paralysed after a car bomb intending to kill the Home Secretary detonates in Westminster. Although she manages to escape the car before the explosion, she is struck by debris whilst fleeing and receives damage to her spine.
Juliet is later revealed to be the mastermind behind Yalta, the organisation trying to suppress America's power, and is also no longer paralysed. Section D manage to foil Juliet's plans but not before she injects Ros Myers with a supposedly lethal poison. Adam Carter manages to switch the poison with a paralysing agent before this, making it seem that Ros has been killed. During this, Juliet manages to escape.
Personal life[]
Juliet Shaw is revealed to have once been married in Spooks: The Personnel Files as a reprimand in Harry’s file states they have been conducting an affair despite both being married. It is not shown in the TV series of she is divorced or still married.
Whilst working for MI6 in Paris in 1979 she began an affair with Harry Pearce, who was cheating on his then wife Jane. The affair lasted for several months while Harry was on secondment to MI6 in Cologne until he was recalled to MI5 in late 1979.
