Jim North (portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch) is a British man who appears in series two's "Legitimate Targets". He works for the British government in the Defence Logistics/Munitions support of the Ministry of Defence (MOD). In the episode a Serbian general Gradic is attacking top secret British MOD bases and killing the soldiers and MI5 think there's a leak in the MOD.

Tom tasks Danny into searching through the MOD staff records in an attempt to route out the mole who has been leaking the information. Danny flags Jim as despite being on pay scale D, is spending more money than he should have earned and is doing a poor job of washing the extra money.
When we first see Jim in person he has been arrested by an MI5 team and has been brought into their custody for an interrogation and seems very scared. He openly admits to being the mole who is leaking the MOD information but is under the impression that the information is low level information covered by the freedom of information act. He thinks the people he's been talking to are simply building a map of secret Britain which he supports.
He met them through a Serbian dealer in Hammersmith and has been communicating with them via dead drops and coded messages through classified ads in the evening paper. If the advert contained an agreed upon phone number then Jim would know it was for him and decode it. After the interrogation has finished, he asked Tom and Danny what's going to happen to him and Tom replied "bad things".
